5 Tip Ideas for Getting Mom Online

Bonnie, our head of Customer Experience, was getting ready to celebrate her own mom, virtually. Here are her top recommendations for online gifts for moms on their special day:

1)    Get mom setup to jam to music with Spotify. A basic membership is free but a monthly Premium membership makes her listening pleasure ad-free. She can stream songs, or download to play while disconnected from the internet. She can easily share playlists, songs, or artists – so it’s a great way for a music-loving family like mine to stay connected. The app even suggests music based on her most recently played tracks on a weekly basis! Plus, Spotify has podcasts and other media as well.

 2)    Teach mom how to play her favorite game, in my mom’s case Mahjong, online! She can play against the computer, strangers, or create your own community. 

3)    Introduce mom to Instagram! Help get her get connected to friends and family on this image-based social media (only available on iPhone or iPad). If she feels discouraged, let mom know two older adults in the UK have become an Instagram sensation! And if your mom doesn’t post very often, remind her she can at least check out posts and stories by loved ones, favorite media sources, or even favorite celebs.

4)    Give mom the world. Allow her to explore the globe simply through Google Earth. She can virtually walk the streets of Paris, her old neighborhood, or perhaps reach the top of Mount Everest.

5)    Show mom SkillShare so she can have access to all sorts of lessons – from photography to self-discovery to watercolors. There are free classes as well an option for a Premium Membership giving unlimited access, from one-time online classes to workshop series.
