Saving and Sharing Family Photos
We recently found some amazing old family photos from as far back as the 1950’s and even a video of my great uncle’s 85th birthday party from the early 80’s. It was so much fun to see all of our family members as kids and the fashions from over the decades. Technology has made it so easy to preserve and share photos and videos.
If you are trying to organize your famiy photos, here are some tips:
Digitize your old slides, photos and movies: If you have slides, old photos or even super 8 movies, you can digitize them. It’s a great way to preserve them and share them with others. You can use a professional digitizing service or for slides and photos, you can scan them yourself. There’s an app called SlideScan which will digitize slides by taking a picture from your smart phone. And, for scanning and saving prints, you can use your printer, a photo scanner or a photo scanning app on your phone.
Save and back up photos to the cloud. Saving photos on a computer or phone is risky. There’s always the chance that you will lose your device, or something will break. It’s a good idea to back up and store photos somewhere else. You can use an external hard drive, but even easier, use what’s know as a cloud based storage system like Dropbox. Google Drive or iCloud to save your photos. This means that your photos are always available to you, no matter where you are or which device you are using. You can share easily from any of these locations.
Share your photos and videos: If you use Apple products (iPhone, iPads or Mac) you can easily create a shared folder within the photos app and share to anyone who also has an Apple device. Google photos has a similar feature. For videos, you can upload them to YouTube and share a link.
